To start this post off with a bang, we should disclose that we fill up customer loyalty punch cards with amazing speed and vigor. Only on the weekends is our blood coffee level normalized. It seems only logical that during our overhaul of the website that we would imbibe our fair share of coffee and late nights, so to recap the past few months of work, without further delay, our Top 5 Downtown Coffee Shops.

#5 - The Mud Pie Vegan Bakery and Coffeehouse

The Mud Pie is a great example of relaxed atmosphere and comfortable setting. Their location on 39th street is literally a home, with different rooms throughout with different styles of chairs and always a great cup of java.

#4 - Crossroads Coffeehouse 

Located on Southwest Trafficway, Crossroads Coffeehouse is the best place to hang out in downtown, without actually being downtown. Not only is the coffee amazing, but their made-to-order sandwiches are amazing. They now deliver! Here is a photo of their coffeetop that deserves some facetime...

 #3 - YJ's Snack Bar

YJ's has been around for decades, and nothing changes. That's part of why they are in our top 5, because you walk in to the small shop and instantly feel cozy. Decor can be described best as 'interesting', and the staff are always awesome. The food specials change daily, our favorite being the Fajitas (on Thursday). Here is a Star Wars Ewok made into my coffee at YJ's. Who said work isn't fun?

#2 - Mildreds Coffeehouse @ Crossroads

Mildreds has two locations downtown, but we enjoy their Crossroads location best. #2, 3 and 4 on this list surprisingly are located within 2 blocks from each other. Tells you something about coffee and the crossroads... Mildreds is one of the few places that uses specific chocolates in their mixed coffees, and as such can usually beat anyone in a chocolate flavored drink. Have a seat on their comfy couches, grab your large coffee and perhaps stick around for lunch. Its all worth it.

#1 - The Filling Station

Heading south from the Crown Center area of Downtown we find our #1 spot. Nestled between Gilham and Cherry streets, The Filling Station is a former filling station turned into cafe, with great indoor and outdoor seating options (for our crazy winter warmth!). The coffee is guaranteed to please, and the food is guaranteed to fill. Because The Filling Station is located outside of the buzz, there is a quiet community atmosphere where it feels like your 'backyard' or your 'porch' instead of anything else. We speak alot of the atmosphere of a coffeeshop, but don't forget these places all serve mean cups of joe.

As there are literally dozens of coffeeshops in the downtown area, we encourage you to try them all and come up with your own lists. 

Remember- Friends don't let Friends drink Starbucks. Keep it local, and you will get free ewoks in your coffee.
